The Water Basin MIS is a management tool that was developed for the programme Institutional Set-up Studies of the Ethiopian Blue Nile (Abbay) River Basin Organisation, which is undertaken by the Ethiopian Ministry of Water Resources with support from the French government.
The objective of the MIS is to help the River Basin Organisation and other users to keep track of the relevant integrated water resources management documents and projects of major stakeholders and to have detailed information on the actual water user schemes. The system integrates 3 basic units that can be linked to each other: (i) Projects and their components, (ii) Water User Schemes, and (iii) Library documentation system.
Basic Structure Water Basin MIS
The system includes the following facilities:
- Different user access levels (Administrators, Encoders, and Guests)
- User-friendly data encoding
- Data Analysis through Query builder and Report builder (both facilities allow the users to design customised reports without requiring any knowledge of the database structure)
- Design and display of Maps and attributes (integrated GIS)
- Links to Modelling software (MIKEBASIN), hydrological/gauging stations database (HYDATA) and ArcGIS - data from various systems can be imported and viewed in the MIS
- Simple Database Management:
- Selection of another database
- Exporting/making back-up of the selected database
- Creating a new database while maintaining reference data
- Automatic Compact and Repair
- Importing of other databases into the existing one in order to build a consolidated database
- In-built Help system.
